Where great stories come to life.

Who We Are

Seaweed Publishing is a small but passionate imprint created to support and manage the future works of Ida Linehan Young.

While it began as a way for Ida to share her own stories more freely and frequently, Seaweed Publishing is inherently rooted in possibility. It’s a space where creativity is nurtured, stories are honored, and trusted fellow writers who share the same spirit and values may occasionally find a home for their work.

Who knows where the seaweed will settle next?

Why “Seaweed”?

The name Seaweed Publishing is a tribute to a pivotal chapter in Ida’s life.

Years ago, when Ida, her husband, and their three young children were living in poverty in St. Bride’s, Placentia Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador, she had the opportunity to join a government-funded initiative known locally as The Seaweed Program. Designed to promote creative and small business thinking in rural communities, the program gave her family something they desperately needed: a year without financial worry.

It was a minimum-wage job, but for the first time, it brought stability—groceries in the cupboards, bills paid on time, and space to breathe. More than that, it planted a seed of belief: that things could change.

That belief led to college, then to an outstanding career, and eventually to the courage to write her first book. Each step forward—from poverty to published author—can be traced back to the confidence and opportunity sparked by that one program.

Seaweed, as it turns out, was the beginning of everything.

The Vision

Ida’s vision with Seaweed Publishing is one of growth and possibility—the same aspects that changed her life years ago through the Seaweed Program.

Now, with more time to focus on writing and publishing, she hopes to build a place where readers and writers can come together, share experiences, and celebrate creativity. This imprint is Ida’s way of moving forward while giving back.

She knows the road won’t be perfect. There will be learning curves and likely a few mistakes. But she’s ready for it. Because mistakes are how we grow, and this next chapter is all about growth.

I’m grateful to everyone who’s helped me get to this point—Creative Book Publishing for believing in me first, Flanker Press for helping me grow, Engen Books for pushing my creative boundaries, and the local and national writing communities who have supported me along the way. I will also continue to lift up other writers as I have always tried to do.

Most of all, the biggest thanks goes to my readers. Without their support and encouragement, there’d be none of this.
